Hello guys.

This morning I woke up at 5 AM and didn’t have much of a problem doing so. I had 8 hours of sleep as I went to bed at 9PM. But I didn’t take my anxiety medication last night. I feel like it may be the reason why It’s so difficult to get out of bed in the morning.

I’m supposed to take it twice a day; In the morning and before bed. Last time that I took it in the morning I fell asleep for 2 hours at 11 AM whilst reading a book. That’s when I stopped taking it in the morning.

Yesterday when I slept until 10:45 I blamed it on the medication so last night I decided not to take it and I didn’t feel the need to get back into bed after my alarm.

Today I achieved a new personal record for my pace for a 2KM run after a rest day which proves my hypothesis that rest is essential for progress.

I’m very proud of this.

When I read the book “Unshakeable” by Tony Robbins it had a quote in there which was

“Knowledge is NOT power. Knowledge is potential power. Execution is the only real power”

He emphasizes that having information, a great idea, or philosophical understanding is meaningless unless you actually do something with it. The gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it is what separates those who succeed from those who stay stuck.

I mention this because based on my schedule I should be reading right now, but I feel as it would be a distraction. This is because I already know what I need to do right now and I do not feel stuck.

If I were to drop everything I’m doing right now and read a book because my schedule says so I would be a fool.

In the book “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion” By Robert B. Cialdini. He discusses the principle of Commitment and Consistency as a powerful tool of persuasion. Cialdini specifically mentions the Emersons quote to distinguish between good, rational consistency and the “foolish, rigid variety” that can be exploited for compliance.

Ralph Waldo Emerson’s original quote from Essays First series in 1841 was:

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do.”

I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one and since we’re on the topic of foolish consistency, there is a book by Stephen R. Covey called “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” in which Covey often addresses the need to align your daily actions (consistency) with your core values (self-reliance/intuition). While not always quoting it directly, the need to “Begin with the End in Mind” (Habit 2) is a way to ensure your consistency is purposeful and not foolish.

These are my excuses for currently prioritizing my blog post over reading.
